In this article, you'll learn how to create a new budget view for an existing budget.
If you haven't created a budget yet, check out the guide on how to do so first, then return to this article (the guide will open in a new tab).
A budget view allows you to easily budget for a specific area, such as sales or marketing. Simply select the relevant dimensions, like cost centers, accounts, and projects related to sales.
After that, all you need to do is enter the budget figures.
-
Go to the Plan tab and click Budgeting.
2. Open the budget for which you want to create a new budget view.
3. Click the Default view dropdown and select Create new budget view.
4. Name the budget view.
5. Define which items are displayed in the budget view.
All selected budget dimensions appear on the left, with filtering enabled by default (indicated by a purple filter icon). This means that all items within the dimension are included in the budget view.
- To include all items from a dimension, keep the filter enabled (purple).
- To select specific items, disable the filter by clicking the icon until it turns gray. You can then choose which accounts, cost centers, projects, or other dimensions to include.
6. Set the display order of dimensions in the budget view. Move dimensions up or down using the arrow buttons.
- Choose which dimension appears at the top.
- Define the order of the dimensions below it.
The order affects how data is displayed in the budget view and how budget figures are allocated. Once the hierarchy is set, you can enter budget figures at a higher-level dimension, and they will be applied accordingly.
7. Preview the budget view layout in the preview panel on the right.
8. Save the budget view. Now you've created a customized budget view that supports multi-dimensional budgeting.
