If you want to add a row to your table that shows, for example, how much of your sales remain as profit, you can create what’s called a ratio. A ratio here means comparing two numbers and calculating the percentage between them.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to easily create such a ratio in your table. The process is the same whether you want to add a row for gross margin percentage, EBITDA margin percentage, or, for example, operating profit percentage.
How to add a gross margin percentage row to your table
1. Find the table you want to edit.
2. Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the table and select Edit.
3. Find the Gross margin row from the groups on the right side.
4. Hover your mouse below the Gross margin row and click the plus icon that appears beneath the row group.
5. Select Add formula.
6. Create the ratio using a formula as follows:
From the menu that opens, select Percentage as the formula type.
First, click the Gross margin row (for example, “Gross Margin”). This will be the numerator in the formula.
Next, click the net turnover row (for example, “Group 1”). This will be the denominator in the formula.
StatBun will automatically generate the formula: Gross Margin ÷ Net turnover × 100.
Finish by clicking the button with the ✓-mark (check mark).
7. The gross margin percentage you created will appear below the Gross margin row as its own row in the table, named Percentage by default.
8. To more easily find the gross margin percentage row you just created in the table later, rename the row to something like Gross Margin %.
Change the name as follows:
Click the gear icon located below the row group name.
Rename the row group, for example, to Gross Margin %.
You can adjust the number of visible decimal places by clicking the arrow next to the Decimals option.
Finally, click the Done button.
How to add the EBITDA margin as a separate row in a table
1. Find the table you want to edit.
2. Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the table and select Edit.
3. Locate the EBITDA row in the group section on the right-hand side.
4. Hover your mouse below the EBITDA row and click the plus icon that appears under the row group.
5. Select Add Formula.
6. Create a ratio using a formula as follows:
From the dropdown menu, choose Percentage as the formula type.
First, click the EBITDA row (e.g., "EBITDA"). This will be the numerator of your formula.
Then, click the Net turnover row (e.g., "Group 1"). This will be the denominator.
StatBun will automatically generate the formula: EBITDA ÷ Net turnover × 100.
Finalize by clicking the button with the ✓ icon (checkmark).
7. A new row named “Percentage” will appear under the EBITDA row in the table. This row shows the EBITDA margin.
8. To make it easier to find your EBITDA margin in the future, rename the row to something more descriptive, such as “EBITDA Margin”.
To rename the row:
Click the gear icon located below the name of the row group.
Change the row group name to, for example, EBITDA Margin.
To adjust how many decimal places are shown, click the arrow next to the “Decimals” option.
When you're done, click the button with the ✓ icon to save your changes.
